Maps have a way of sparking curiosity and adventure, and the Urban Grid 3D Embossing Folder of the Month from Spellbinders captures that feeling beautifully. The intricate city map design is both playful and detailed, making it a wonderful focal point for a handmade card. For this project, I wanted the panel to resemble a map page torn from a book, complete with a traced travel route and a celebratory destination.

Card Details
I began with a panel of Bellini Colorwheel Cardstock cardstock, trimming it to an A2 size (4¼” × 5½”). To create the look of a page pulled from a notebook, I used the Torn Paper Edges. On the left-hand side, I cut the edge that resembles a coil binder, and on the right side I used one of the torn-edge dies.
Once the edges were prepared, the panel was embossed with the Urban Grid 3D embossing folder, revealing the intricate map pattern across the surface.
To create a travel route, I traced a winding path across the embossed map using a gold gel pen. The line was then accented with Gold Crystal Nuvo Drops, dotted along the route for extra shine and dimension. The destination point was highlighted with a gold confetti and finished with Nuvo Crystal Drops in Morning Dew for a glossy accent.
For the card base, I adhered an A2 panel of coral cardstock to a standard card base. The embossed map panel was then mounted to the front using foam tape to give it some lift and dimension.

The sentiment comes from the Press & Foil of the Month set. I hot foiled “Birthday Wishes” in gold onto Coral cardstock. The words were arranged vertically, aligned along the left side, trimmed into a rectangle, and finished with a banner cut on one end. The sentiment was attached to the top of the card front with foam tape.
To complete the design, I added a delicate layered flower created from Bellini, Mint, and Gold Foil cardstock, placing it at the base of the sentiment for a soft decorative touch.
Closing Thoughts
This card was so much fun to create. The Urban Grid embossing folder adds incredible texture and detail, while the torn edges and gold route line tell a little story across the card front. It’s a unique and playful way to celebrate a birthday—perfect for someone who loves travel, adventure, or simply a beautiful handmade card.
