The Spellbinders Stitching Die of the Month for October, All I Want: Ugly Sweater, is such a fun set! With its whimsical characters and playful Christmas theme, this card definitely embraces the spirit of the ugly Christmas sweater—especially with the little toothy humour!

Card Details

I began by embossing a panel of white cardstock using the 3D Embossing Folder of the Month. The embossed panel was adhered to an A2-sized card base.

Next, I moved on to the Stitching Die of the Month, die cutting all of the elements that required stitching. Each of these elements includes an outline die that can be used on its own. I cut the outlines from Blush Colorwheel Cardstock, then used the outline dies together with the stitching dies to cut the corresponding pieces from white cardstock.

These pieces create the sweater band at the waist, the neck band and a decorative detail. All of the stitching was done using white embroidery floss. Once the stitching was complete, the white stitched die cuts were adhered to the pink outline pieces, giving them a lovely soft-pink glow.

The characters for this sweater are so much fun—and maybe a little unexpected! We have a girl tooth and a boy tooth. How funny is that?

For the girl tooth, I used a combination of white cardstock, Blush and Chiffon. For the boy tooth, I used Acorn and Truffle, along with white and Blush for his cheeks and Coral for his carrot nose. A snowman tooth—how about that? To complete this cute little scene, there’s even a toothbrush with a dollop of toothpaste!

To assemble the card, I adhered the stitched details first. The decorative stitched triangles were added just below the neck band and finished with little gold foil bells. The two teeth were popped up with foam squares, adding a bit of dimension to the card. The sentiment from the Clear Stamp & Die of the Month was absolutely perfect: “Ugly sweater: check… Two front teeth: wish list.” I stamped the sentiment onto Blush cardstock and used the coordinating die to cut it out. It was also popped up with foam squares.

Closing Thoughts

This card was just plain fun to make! The combination of stitching, the soft pink details and those adorable tooth characters makes for a Christmas card with plenty of personality. And really, an ugly sweater featuring two front teeth and a toothbrush? It doesn’t get much more unexpected—or more fun—than that!

The All I Want: Ugly Sweater Stitching Die of the Month is definitely a set that made me smile from beginning to end.
