I have leaned into the vintage feel of January’s Press & Foil of the Month, Post Card Hello. This is the sweet design well suited for either foiling or letter pressing. I like the addition of the torn edge to really emphasize that vintage vibe.

Step-by-Step Directions

  • Prepare the Panels

Begin by trimming two A2-sized panels. Cut one from Mulberry Colorwheel Cardstock and the other from Beeswax Colorwheel Cardstock.

  • Foil the Mulberry Panel

Using the Spellbinders BetterPress/Hot Foil plate, foil the Postcard Hello design onto the Mulberry panel with gold foil using the Glimmer Hot Foil System.

  • Letterpress the Beeswax Panel

Position the foil/press plate and the Beeswax panel onto the BetterPress System  and ink it using a combination of BetterPress inks:

    • Azalea

    • Tawny Brown

    • Saffron

Lightly blend the inks directly onto the plate for a soft, aged look, then run it through the die cutter.

  • Create the Torn Edge

Die cut the bottom edge of both panels using a die from the Torn Paper Edges die set. This adds instant character and enhances the vintage postcard aesthetic.

  • Distress the Edges

Using a blending tool, softly ink all edges of each panel with Walnut Stain Distress Ink, paying special attention to the torn edge for added depth.

  • Add Ink Spatter

Thin Walnut Stain ink slightly with water. Using a fan brush, lightly spatter both panels for a timeworn, splattered effect.

  • Prepare the Card Bases

Cut A2 (4.25” × 5.5”) kraft card bases. Ink the edges that will be exposed of each base lightly with Walnut Stain to tie everything together.

  • Assemble the Cards

Adhere each finished panel to a kraft card base using foam tape.

  • Add the Sentiments

Finish each card with either a letterpress or foiled sentiment included in the Press & Foil of the Month  and placing it along the bottom edge to mimic a vintage postcard label.

Closing Thoughts

These cards truly celebrate the charm of old-world correspondence, where every mark, stain, and imperfect edge tells a story. By combining foiling, BetterPress inking, distressed details, and rich ColorWheel cardstock, you can easily recreate this timeless postcard look. Whether sent through the mail or displayed as a keepsake, these designs feel nostalgic, tactile, and full of warmth—proof that leaning into a vintage style never goes out of fashion.
