Spellbinders Classic Road Legends 2.0 – Retro Rides & Speedometer Cards

There’s something so nostalgic about classic cars, and the Classic Road Legends 2.0 Collection by Spellbinders and Mindy Eggen captures that vintage charm perfectly! For today’s cards, I combined the two car sets,Sedan Street Cruiser and Hot Rod Flames, from the collection with coordinating products from a previous release, including the Speedometer die set and Cruisin’ By Sentiments. The result is a pair of fun, masculine-inspired cards that would be perfect for birthdays, Father’s Day, retirement celebrations, or simply sending a cheerful greeting to a car enthusiast.

Card Details

I created two cards featuring the Sedan Street Cruiser and Hot Rod Flames die sets. Both cards were assembled using the same design layout, with the only differences being the colour palettes and featured vehicles.

For the blue Sedan Street Cruiser card, the car was die cut from Colorwheel Cardstock in Malibu, Windy, Fog, and Anchor. The coordinating speedometer was also created using the blue shades of cardstock for a cohesive look. The sentiments from the Cruisin’ By Sentiments stamp set were stamped onto Malibu cardstock and cut using the coordinating strip dies.

The Hot Rod Flames card features a softer, more glamorous colour palette. The vehicle was die cut from Chiffon, Blush, Gold Foil, and Gold Glitter Cardstock, creating a fun retro look with plenty of shine. The sentiments were stamped onto Chiffon cardstock and cut with the coordinating dies.

Both card backgrounds were created by embossing black cardstock with the Cascading Dots 3D Embossing Folder. The embossed panels were then adhered to black A2 card bases, allowing the texture to add subtle interest while keeping the focus on the cars and speedometers.

Both of the car die sets have many details, which is what makes them so special. I used the diagrams which I have included for your reference to help determine not only the placement of these die cuts, but also the colour of card stock that I would cut them from. This makes the process of assembling both.Sedan Street Cruiser and Hot Rod Flames straight forward.

The Speedometers were centered on each card front and adhered directly to the background panels. The cars were then popped up with foam tape, creating dimension and helping them stand out against the bold black background. To finish the design, the sentiments were added above and below the focal images using foam squares for additional depth.

I love how easily this collection can be customized simply by changing the colour palette. The soft blue sedan creates a classic, timeless feel, while the pink and gold hot rod brings a playful retro vibe. Paired with the coordinating speedometer and sentiment sets, these dies offer endless possibilities for masculine cards, Father’s Day projects, birthdays, and more.
