Positive Negative Design with Spellbinder’s Glimmer of the Month

Updated: Mar 16, 2023

Hello everyone! Spellbinder's Glimmer of the Month, So Kind of You, is very beautiful. The floral backdrop can stand alone or be used as a background. My two cards feature a positive negative design.

  • For the card with the positive design, A2 sized Bristol Smooth card stock was ink blended with Distrss Oxide Inks Fossilized Amber, Dried Marigold and Carved Pumpkin. A smaller panel was inked with just Dried Marigold and Carved Pumpkin for the central floral plate.

  • There are three glimmer plates with this set; the sentiment, large background floral and a smaller floral. The large floral plate was foiled twice on the panel. To position the plate, two pieces of low tack tape were used to attach it to the top of the panel creating a hinge. Gold Hot Foil was slipped in between the plate and panel with the shiny side of the foil against the plate. The sandwich was placed on the Hot Foil System with the plate directly on the platform. This process was repeated for the other side of the panel.

  • An A2 sized panel of coral card stock was used for the card with the negative design. The two foil pieces used to create the background from the positive design card were reused on this card. Both foil pieces were laid out shiny side down on a Solid Rectangle Foiling Plate on the Hot Foil System. The coral card stock was placed on top. The background is foiled in one go! Because this panel will have a large area of foiling, in addition to the plate and shim, I used three sheets of copy paper folded in half to add additional pressure as it is rolled through the die cutting machine.

  • The small central panels were foiled using the small plate on coral card stock for one card and on the small ink blended panel for the other.

  • The background panels for each card were trimmed down to 4 1/8" by 5 3/8" and adhered to A2 sized black card bases.

  • The accompanying die for the central floral panel was used to die cut the floral and sheet foam. They were stacked and adhered to the centre of the background.

  • For the positive design the sentiment was foiled in gold on card stock inked with Carved Pumpkin. For the other card, the sentiment was foiled in black on gold mirror card stock.

  • The sentiments and foam were cut with the oval die included in this set, stacked and mounted on the raised central floral panel.
