Folk Art Inspired Christmas Card featuring Spellbinders' Magical Deer & Enchanted Garden

Updated: Sep 19, 2022

Hello, everyone! I love the Winter Tales Collection by Spellbinders. The images are fanciful and sweet and they are fun to arrange. A mirror image, symmetrical background of floral die cuts from Enchanted Garden creates a background for Magical Deer. There is lots of die cutting so if you have a mini die cutter, this is a good project to put it to work!

  • I began by first die cutting and constructing the deer out of a light and neutral palette with a touch of aqua glitter card stock. The deer is easily constructed and some inlay work was done with both card stock and tiny crystals.

  • To create the symmetrical floral background, I needed to have a larger card format and opted for a 5" by 7" card base of black card stock.

  • A navy blue panel measuring 4 3/4" by 6 3/4" was embossed with Holly Flourish Embossing Folder. The panel was mounted on black sheet foam and adhered to the card base.

  • The flowers and leaves from Enchanted Garden were cut from the following colours of card stock:

- Chamomile, Beeswax, Saffron

- Teal Topaz

- Terra Cotta

- mint and mint glitter

  • The flowers were layered and most were adhered to leafy stems. Like the deer, some inlay work was completed with card stock and tiny crystals.

  • The floral design was 'loose' arranged on the card base with the deer. The deer and one side of the arrangement was removed. The flowers were then replaced and adhered following the loose design on the other side of the panel for guidance. The process was repeated with the other side.

  • A sentiment from Glitter Wishes was foiled in gold on Teal Topaz card stock. The sentiment and foam was cut with an accompanying strip die. The sentiment was stacked and adhered to the bottom of the card.

  • Foam squares were used to adhere the deer centred above the sentiment strip.
