Card Details
I began with an A2-sized panel of watercolor paper, spritzing both sides with water so it would dry flat. Using Distress Stains, I added vibrant color, concentrating the deeper tones along the left-hand edge to create a soft blended background.
The sentiment was created using individual word plates: happy, birthday, wishes, to the, best, and friend. I arranged them on the magnetic plate of the BetterPress System using the grid for alignment, making sure the largest word, birthday, was positioned toward the right side of the A2 template. This allowed space for the patterned paper border.
The plates were inked twice with BetterPress dark blue ink and run through the die-cutting machine to achieve a crisp, bold letterpress impression.
The finished panel was adhered to an A2 card base. A 2-inch strip of patterned paper from the Breakfast in Bed Rosie’s Studio Breakfast In Bed Collection 6x6 Designer Paper was layered with white sheet foam for dimension and added to the left side of the card. A strip of ¼” dark blue glitter washi tape was placed along the edge for a touch of sparkle.
To embellish, I added transparent stickers from the Breakfast in Bed Sticker Book, tucking them in and around the sentiment. The card was finished with small dots of white Nuvo Crystal Drops, creating a soft flowing trail across the panel.
Final Thoughts
This card is a great example of how bold typography can take center stage while still allowing room for soft, layered details. The combination of vibrant color, texture, and dimensional elements creates a design that feels both modern and playful—perfect for celebrating a special friend.
