A Tropical Splash of Happy With Spellbinders Small Die of the Month for June, 2026

Summer crafting and tropical vibes go hand in hand, and the June Small Die of the Month, Mahalo Sea Turtle, delivers both beautifully. This adorable sea turtle paired with the unique layered ocean background creates such a fun scene full of movement and colour. I leaned into rich ocean tones with bright tropical accents to create a card that feels like sunshine, beaches, and warm summer days.

Card Details
I began with a panel of Colorwheel Cardstock using Cosmic Sky cardstock and embossed it with the fun Suds & Buds 3D Embossing Folder. To highlight all of the beautiful texture, I rubbed white pigment ink over the raised areas before adhering the finished panel to an A2-sized card base.
The unique layered ocean background became the focal point for the design. The outline layer of the wavy two-piece background die was cut from Oceanside cardstock along with black sheet foam for dimension. Using both dies together, I cut Cosmic Sky cardstock to create the layered ocean scene which was adhered to the centre of the card front.
The sweet sea turtle was die cut from two shades of green cardstock and popped up with foam squares over the ocean background to create additional depth and dimension.
For the decorative accent, I used the included banner dies, cutting the outline from Cosmic Sky cardstock and using both dies together to cut Oceanside cardstock for the inner layer. After layering the pieces together, I finished the banner with a beautiful hibiscus flower from the Large Die of the Month cut from Mulberry, Lilac, and Tuscan cardstock. This tropical floral cluster was adhered to the upper left corner of the ocean scene.
The sentiment from the Clear Stamp & Die of the Month was stamped with Versamark ink onto Cosmic Sky cardstock and heat embossed in white. After using the coordinating die to cut the sentiment, I stacked it with foam and adhered it below the seascape. The card was finished off with little circle dye cuts that were retained from cutting the wavy Seascape and topped off with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew.
Closing Thoughts
This card is such a fun reminder that tropical designs don’t always need bright rainbow colours to feel vibrant. The deep ocean blues paired with the bold hibiscus create beautiful contrast while keeping the overall design cohesive. The layered background die is definitely the standout element—it creates so much movement and texture while providing the perfect setting for this adorable little turtle. A sweet tropical card guaranteed to send a splash of happy!
