Stretching Your Stencils with Ink Lifting featuring Picket Fence Studio's Shadow of Leaves

Updated: Jul 23, 2022

Hello everyone! I have a set of cards featuring Picket Fence Studio’s GORGEOUS 6 by 6 and Slim Line SHADOW OF LEAVES in an easy ink lifting technique. This set of cards also features new leaf die sets … which I LOVE! … MORE ASH LEAVES, MORE MAPLE LEAVES and MORE OAK LEAVES.

I began with creating ink blended backgrounds using Distress Oxide inks and Life Changing Blender Brushes.

  • Fossilized Amber, Rustic Wilderness, Chippd Sapphire

  • Villainous Potion, Spiced Marmelade, Candied Apple

  • Squeezed Lemonade, Mermaid, Lagoon, Twisted Citron

No need to wait for the ink to dry! The stencils were placed over the panels, held in place with some low tack tape and the ink lifted with a baby wipe. Please see the video for tips!

The panels for the A2 sized cards were trimmed to 4” by 5 1/4” and mounted on black matted card bases. The slim line panel was die cut with one of the dies from Slim Line Nested Rectangles and adhered to a black matted card base measuring 3 1/2” by 8 1/2”. For the autumn themed cards, the sentiments are from Fancy Autumn Sentiments. The sentiments were stamped with Intense Black Ink, clear embossed and cut with the coordinating dies. The sentiments were mounted on foam die cuts. For the card with the summery colours, a die cut sentiment, Good Day to You, was used. White card stock and foam were cut with the shadow die and stacked. An ink blended gradient using the same colours in the background was created to cut the words from.

The leaves were inked, for the most part, with colours found in the background. After they were arranged on the panels, sequins were selected to coordinate with the backgrounds from Orange Bottle Cap Flowers, Green Seas and Under The Sea. They were finished off with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew.
