Hello friends! Well Nichol Spohr with Spellbinders has done it again! Summer Felt Stitch & Create Collection is absolutely fabulous. For my first project I have created a card with Felt Floral Beehive … an adorable beehive accented with cute bumblebees and floral designs! Such a sweet design!

All of the elements from Felt Floral Beehive were cut from Merino Felt Warm Collection and stitched with coordinating DMC Color Essentials Floss Warm Collection. I began with the beehive, which was die cut two times. When die cutting felt I like to add a shim, just a panel of cardstock, to ensure all of the stitching holes are cleanly cut. After the beehive was stitched, the door opening was stitched to the lower half of the beehive. Although the door will have stitching holes, there will be no holes on the beehive. It is easiest to use an embroidery needle with a sharp point to push through the two layers of the beehive.

Two die cut branches from the.Classic Tales Die Set  were adhered so they would overhang the beehive. The leaves and flower stems were appliquéd at the base of the beehive and onto the branches followed by the flower heads. For the fuchsia flowers, felt button die cuts were used for the centres. These were knotted on top for a cute accent.

I stitched the bees with their vellum wings independently and adhere them to the beehive. The beehive with its overhanging branches was adhered to a panel of Fawn Colorwheel Cardstock that was mounted A2 size, black card base. The card was finished off with a letter pressed sentiment from Reel Color Sentiments BetterPress Plate & Die Set. The coordinating die for the sentiment was used to cut black foam to stack the sentiment on.
