The Spellbinders Stencil of the Month – Changing Seasons is appropriately named! This five-piece stencil set can create a beautiful seasonal scene simply by changing your colour palette. With Autumn quickly approaching, I chose a rich combination of reds, oranges and yellows to capture the beautiful transition of the leaves.

Card Details

I began with an A2-sized panel of Seaside Colorwheel Cardstock. Working with Distress Oxide inks, I applied Forest Moss, Walnut Stain, Aged Mahogany, Candied Apple, Spiced Marmalade and Fossilized Amber to create my autumn scene.

When applying the inks to the leafy areas, I blended combinations of the red, orange and yellow shades rather than keeping each colour separate. This created a more natural transition between the colours and mimics the way leaves gradually change as Autumn arrives.

To create the card base, I used the largest die from the Perfect Touch Archesset to cut a piece of cardstock that had been folded in half. I positioned the top of the arch die slightly above the fold so that the fold would remain intact, creating a hinged card base. I then used the same die to cut the stencilled scene so that it would fit perfectly onto the card base.

The finished stencilled panel was then adhered to the card base and a hot foiled sentiment from the Press & Foil of the Month on Merlot Colorwheel Cardstock stacked on foam completes this simple card that lets the beautiful autumn scene take centre stage.

Closing Thoughts

I love how versatile this stencil set is! With different colour palettes, the very same design can take you from spring to summer, into autumn and through to winter. For this card, the rich Autumn colours make it feel like the seasons are beginning to change — one of my favourite times of year. 🍁
