The Spellbinders Stencil of the Month for October, “Frosty Wishes,” is an absolute delight! This five-piece stencil set creates a cheerful snowman face that fills an A2 card front with festive personality.
This month, I tried something a little different — stenciling with watercolor — and the results were wonderfully organic, soft, and full of character.

Stenciling with Watercolor
The stenciling was done on watercolor paper using Mijello Mission Gold watercolors. To keep the edges crisp, I used a wet-on-dry technique — applying saturated color to dry paper through the stencil.
A few tips:
Keep your paint rich in pigment but light on water to avoid seepage.
If a little paint sneaks under the stencil, no worries! Quickly blot with a paper towel and smooth out the area with a clean, damp brush.
I added a touch of white paint around the edge of the hat to help it stand out from the teal background.
Once the painting was complete, the panel was spattered with Spellbinders Splatter White to create a snowy look.

Finishing Touches
After drying, the panel was trimmed to 4” x 5¼” and adhered to an A2 white card base.
To add a bit of dimension and sparkle:
Nuvo Crystal Drops in Simply White was used to accent the snowflakes and small details.
The sentiment — “Merry Everything and a Happy Always” — was letter pressed using the Christmas Cheer Press Plate and Die Set.
The coordinating die was used to cut both the sentiment and foam, then stacked for a raised effect before adhering to the brim of Frosty’s hat.

A Watercolor Twist on Stenciling 🎨❄️
If you’ve never tried watercolor stenciling, this project is a great place to start. The playful design of Frosty Wishes makes it easy to experiment while creating a card that’s bright, textured, and full of winter joy.
