Card Details
Background
The background began with a panel of watercolour cardstock, lightly sprayed with water and then touched with Distress Stain in Spun Sugar. The water was allowed to freely move the ink across the surface, creating a soft, dreamy wash. Once dry, the panel was trimmed to 4¼” × 5½” and adhered to an A2 card base. A small scrap from this same panel was saved to create a perfectly coordinated sentiment.
Sentiment
The quote was letterpressed in black ink using the Poet’s Garden Sentiments. The coordinating die was used to cut both the sentiment and white sheet foam, which were stacked together to give the sentiment subtle dimension before adhering it to the card front.

Florals & Greenery
All floral elements were die cut from Susan’s Garden Specialty Cardstock.
Violets: Each flower is made up of three petal layers plus a sepal. Enough pieces were die cut to create 14 flowers.
Leaves & Stems: Two stems and ten leaves were cut to support the floral arrangement.
The petals were coloured on both the front and back using Distress Stains, allowing for beautiful, natural colour variation. The greenery—including the sepals—was coloured with Distress Stain in Mowed Lawn, using a quick, loose application for an organic look.
Once dry, each petal and sepal was gently shaped in the centre using a medium ball tool. The three petals were then layered together, with the sepal forming the base. Flower centres were finished with a mix of Prills in You Had me At Yellow and Orange Juice, adding texture and warmth. The leaves were shaped by hand for a soft, realistic curve.
Assembly & Finishing Touches
The two stems were adhered directly to the card front, followed by the flowers arranged on top. Leaves were tucked in around the blooms to complete the cluster and the panel spattered. The sentiment was placed at the base of the arrangement, grounding the design. To finish, Nuvo Crystal Drops in Simply White were added sparingly throughout the floral area for a light, airy touch.
Closing Thoughts
This card is a beautiful reminder of how slowing down and letting your materials guide the process can result in something truly special. From the free-flowing inked background to the hand-shaped florals, every element contributes to a sense of gentle growth and quiet elegance—perfectly echoing the Yeats quote. Whether you’re creating for a special occasion or simply for the joy of making, this approach invites you to enjoy each step and celebrate the beauty in the details.
