The Spellbinders Large Die of the Month – Classic Kicks proves that even the sportiest design can take on a completely different personality depending on the colour palette you choose. While sneakers naturally lean toward a masculine or athletic theme, this die set is wonderfully versatile. With soft colours, delicate florals, and a little sparkle, today’s card shows how easily these classic kicks can become a beautifully feminine design.

Card Details

For the sneaker, I used Colorwheel Cardstock in Chiffon and Tutu, paired with gold glitter cardstock to add a touch of shine. The sneaker is very easy to assemble, and the die set includes two accessory options: a gorgeous floral set, which I used on this card, and a fun barbeque set that works perfectly for more masculine designs.

After assembling the sneaker—but setting aside the small interior backing die cut—the leafy stems were adhered behind the shoe so the arrangement appears to grow right out of the sneaker. Once the foliage was in place, the small backing die cut was adhered to the inside of the shoe behind the stems to finish the opening neatly.

The sneaker arrangement was mounted onto an A2 card base covered with soft cream cardstock using foam tape for added dimension.

The sentiment, “You Always Step Up,” comes from the Spellbinders Clear Stamp & Die of the Month. It was stamped onto Chiffon cardstock and die cut with the coordinating die. For extra dimension, the sentiment was layered over a piece of white craft foam cut with the same die.

To finish the design, I added the delicate die-cut flowers and a few additional leaves around the arrangement. The card was embellished with gold confetti pieces, topped with the Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew for a touch of sparkle that ties in beautifully with the gold accents on the shoe.

Closing Thoughts

What I love most about the Classic Kicks die set is how dramatically the look can change just by adjusting the colour palette and accessories. Soft pastels, florals, and glitter instantly create a feminine design perfect for birthdays or encouragement cards.

Switch to deeper colours, bold contrasts, or the barbeque accessories included in the set, and the same sneaker quickly becomes a fun masculine card. It’s a great example of how powerful colour choices can be in cardmaking—completely transforming the personality of a design with just a few simple changes.
