Spellbinders Large Die of the Month – Autumn Tales A Little Autumn Magic

I love Autumn! I love the smells, the sights, and watching one season slowly melt into the next. There is something so magical about the rich colours, crisp leaves, rainy days, pumpkins and the cozy feeling that comes with this time of year. For this card, I’ve embraced all of those Autumn elements with the Spellbinders Large Die of the Month  – Autumn Tales.

Card Details

All of the die cutting was done using Colorwheel Cardstock , with the exception of a rich Orange. I used Acorn, Fawn, Tuscan, Rainforest, Merlot, and a touch of Seaside. I absolutely love this rich colour combination—it’s hard to go wrong with Autumn colours!

I started by die cutting and assembling all of the individual pieces. There are so many sweet elements in this month’s kit, making it easy to create a charming Autumn scene. For the adorable girl holding the umbrella, I gave her a Merlot raincoat and a Tuscan scarf. Her umbrella was created using a combination of Tuscan and Acorn cardstock and finished with Nuvo Crystal Drops in English Mustard. I also added a touch of gold foil to create some cute, shiny buttons.

For the tree, I used a combination of Fawn, Tuscan and Rainforest cardstock, along with dark orange leaves. The sunflowers were created using Tuscan and Acorn, while the pumpkins were die cut from Orange and Seaside cardstock.

To create the background, I covered an A2-sized panel with Seaside cardstock and lightly inked it with Distress Oxide Ink Hickory Smoke to give the panel a soft, rainy-day feel. I adhered the tree to the left-hand side of the card, adding adhesive only to the trunk so that the leaves could lift slightly away from the panel. This adds a little dimension and allows the tree to feel more natural. The clouds were tucked in behind the tree and leaves.

The set includes two landscape dies, and I used the grassy edge to cut a foreground from Rainforest cardstock. I then added the fence—which is almost completely hidden!—followed by the pumpkins and scattered leaves at its base. On the right-hand side of the panel, I added a scattering of leaves cut from Rainforest, Dark Orange, Tuscan and Fawn cardstock. The sunflowers and the little girl were popped up using foam squares to add even more dimension.

The sentiment, from the Clear Stamp & Die of the Month, was stamped in the upper right-hand corner using black Memento ink.

To finish the card, I added several die cut raindrops and finished them with Nuvo Crystal Drops in Morning Dew. The clear-drying drops are perfect for creating realistic little drops of rain and add the perfect finishing touch to this rainy Autumn scene.

Final Thoughts

The Autumn Tales Large Die of the Month  is such a wonderful collection of Autumn-inspired images. I especially love how all of the individual pieces work together to create an entire little scene. The rich combination of Colorwheel Cardstock  in Merlot, Tuscan, Acorn, Fawn, Rainforest and orange makes this card feel unmistakably autumnal, while the umbrella and raindrops bring in that wonderfully unpredictable Fall weather. I think this little scene captures what I love most about autumn—a beautiful mixture of colour, cozy details and just a touch of rain!
