Card Details

This card features three products from the Shine On release: the Leafy Greens Stencil, Flourish Beautiful Butterfly, and the Old Broad Squad Stamp & Die Set.

I began by stenciling a 4” × 5½” panel of light grey cardstock. To keep the stencil secure, I used repositionable adhesive, which made the process quick and easy. Using a small blending tool, I first applied Distress Oxide Ink in Iced Spruce to the stems and bases of the leaves. I then blended Salvaged Patina over the tops of the leaves, creating soft dimension and beautiful variation in color. Once complete, the panel was adhered to an A2-sized card base.

The Flourish Beautiful Butterfly die set includes a die with two wing pairs and a separate die that cuts both a front-facing and side-view body. To create a light and airy appearance, I cut all of the butterfly wings from vellum. The bodies were cut from black foam, adding dimension while providing an ideal place for adhesive. Since vellum does not respond well to liquid glue, I used only a tiny amount to attach the upper wings to the lower wings. For the side-view butterfly, I simply cut the wing pair in half and adhered each half to the side-view body.

The sentiment from the Old Broad Squad Stamp & Die Set was stamped directly onto the stenciled background with black ink. The butterflies were attached by applying adhesive only to the foam bodies, allowing the wings to lift naturally from the card front and create beautiful dimension.

To finish the design, I added white iridescent sequins topped with Nuvo Crystal Drops – Morning Dew for a touch of sparkle and shine.

Closing Thoughts

I love the contrast between the soft, elegant background and the fun sentiment from the Old Broad Squad Stamp & Die Set. The vellum butterflies add such a delicate touch and are easy to assemble. I hope this card inspires you to combine sophisticated elements with a bit of humour as you explore the wonderful products in the Simon Says Stamp’s Shine On Release. Thanks so much for stopping by, and I hope you enjoyed the blog hop!
