For October, Spellbinders has themed all of the Clubs around Christmas, and I couldn’t be happier! Perfect timing, too, because where I live, it won’t be long before Autumn gives way to Winter —and once Winter arrives, it’s hard for me not to start thinking about Christmas.

I’m beginning with the Large Die of the Month, Lit with Joy. This set brought back such a fun memory for me. Many years ago, when ceramics was all the rage, I made one of those little ceramic Christmas trees—the very same style of tree featured in this die set. I’ve even spotted them from time to time over the years, and they always make me smile. For me, this adorable die set is definitely a little flash from the past. So much fun!

Card Details

I began by creating the background. This die set includes what looks like a border die, but when it is cut six times, the strips fit together perfectly to cover an A2-sized panel.

I cut the strips from Blush, Lilac and Chiffon Colorwheel Cardstock, alternating the colours as I adhered them to an A2 card base. The soft combination of colours creates a pretty, almost vintage-inspired backdrop for the Christmas tree.

Next, I assembled the tree. The set includes an outline of the tree, which I cut from Fern cardstock and black sheet foam so I could stack the layers and give the tree some dimension.

I then cut the layering pieces from Fern and Rainforest Colorwheel Cardstock. I found it easiest to cut all of the pieces first and lay them out before beginning to assemble the tree. The base layer has an etched line that makes it very easy to align the top layer.

Before adhering those two layers together, I made sure I had all of the little lightbulbs cut from Blush, Lilac and Mulberry Colorwheel Cardstock. The base layer makes it easy to see exactly where each lightbulb should be placed. I alternated the three colours before adhering the top layer over them, creating a sweet, colourful string of lights.

Once the layered tree pieces were assembled, I adhered each one to the black foam tree outline, starting at the bottom with the largest layer and working my way towards the top.

I finished the tree with a Tuscan cardstock star at the top and a tree skirt cut from gold glitter cardstock. The set even includes the cutest little plug! I cut the plug from Blush cardstock and the cord from black cardstock.

The finished tree was adhered to the left side of the card base, with the little plug and cord extending to the right.

For the sentiment, I used one of the sweet greetings from the Clear Stamp & Die of the Month. I stamped it onto Blush cardstock and cut it out using the coordinating die. I also used the die to cut the sentiment from black sheet foam, stacking the two pieces together for a little extra dimension.

Closing Thoughts

I absolutely love how this card turned out. The little ceramic-style Christmas tree is such a nostalgic reminder of Christmases past, and I love that this card gives this retro favourite a fresh, modern twist with the soft pinks, lilac and mulberry.
