Halloween Felt Stitch and Create by Nichol Sphor | Cute Treat Bag Tags

Just in time for crisp autumn days and the spooky season, the Spellbinders Halloween Felt Stitch & Create Collection by Nicole Spohr has arrived—and these adorable felt designs are almost too cute to resist! I’ve created three fun treat bag tags featuring the Harvest Witch Boot, Charming Witch Hat, and Patchwork Boo. Each design is stitched by hand and has its own personality, making these little tags perfect for adding a handmade touch to Halloween treat bags. They are such fun projects to make, and I love how the felt, embroidery, and little embellishments bring each element to life!

A Few Stitching Tips

I began by die-cutting all of the elements from felt. To ensure nice, clean cuts, I like to add a piece of copy paper folded in half as a shim when die-cutting felt with my machine.

A simple running stitch was used for all three tags. I also used the stitching holes created by the dies as my guide, making the stitching process quick and easy.

For each tag, I decided where I wanted the hanger to be before beginning to stitch. I left an extra-long piece of embroidery floss at that point. Once the stitching was complete, I tied the two ends together to create the hanger—an easy little trick that eliminates the need to add anything afterward.

Harvest Witch Boot

The Harvest Witch Boot is such a fun design! I used the boot die to cut a matching shape from black cardstock, which provides a sturdy backing for the felt.

The outline and laces of the boot were stitched onto the cardstock using copper metallic embroidery floss. I began my stitching at the point where I wanted the tag to hang, leaving a long tail of floss for the hanger.

There are two styles of flower dies included in the collection. I simply rolled the flower pieces, adding liquid adhesive along the bottom edge as I went. Reverse tweezers were handy for holding the rolled flowers in place while the adhesive dried.

The flower centres were finished with gold Prills, and I added the flowers and a few leaves to the top of the boot with liquid adhesive. A few dots of bronze Nuvo Drops around the floral arrangement added the perfect finishing touch.

Charming Witch Hat

The Charming Witch Hat includes a sweet crescent moon and star to embellish the hat.

Each of these designs includes an outline die along with a die that creates the stitching holes. I first used the stitching-hole dies on the hat itself to mark exactly where I wanted the moon and star to be positioned.

I then used the outline and stitching dies together to cut the moon from yellow felt and the star from white felt. The stitching holes on each piece were lined up with those on the hat and stitched with embroidery floss that coordinated with the felt colours.

The hat band was cut from purple felt and stitched with coordinating purple embroidery floss. I then used the same purple floss to stitch the felt hat to the black cardstock backing.

For a little extra decoration, I borrowed one of the flowers and some leaves from the Harvest Witch Boot set and added them to the brim of the hat. The flower centre was finished with green Prills.

Finally, a few dots of Nuvo Drops around the moon and star added a little sparkle and dimension.

Patchwork Boo

Oh my goodness—Patchwork Boo is absolutely precious! I love this little ghost with his sweet patches and button eyes.

I began by stitching the patches onto the felt ghost. I stitched only three sides of each patch, leaving the side that aligned with the outside edge of the ghost unstitched. Those edges would be secured later when the outline of the ghost was stitched.

Pink embroidery floss was used for the little mouth, and I added two small stitches to secure the button eyes. The two additional patches, including the one with the heart, were also stitched with pink floss.

The ghost was then stitched to the coordinating cardstock die cut. As with the other tags, I began at the point where I wanted the tag to hang, leaving a long piece of floss to create the hanger once the stitching was complete.

The two additional pink patches were adhered to the ghost, overlapping one patch slightly over the other for a little added dimension.

Final Thoughts

These little Halloween tags were such a joy to make! The combination of felt, hand stitching, colourful embroidery floss, and tiny embellishments gives each one so much character. I think they would be adorable tied onto Halloween treat bags, gift baskets, or even used as festive decorations.
