Easy Shape Card & Pigment Powders featuring Simon Says Stamp’s Layered Squirrel

The gorgeous Fall colours and cooler temperatures are right down my alley and have inspired this sweet card featuring Simon Says Stamp's adorable Layered Squirrel and Acorn Trio on an easy, shaped card. Pigment powders are quick way to 'colour' all the elements for this Autumn inspired card.

  • On two large panels, 8" x 8", of Canson XL water colour paper, a combination of pigment powders were applied. The panels were wetted well and the powders tapped on. For the panel that would be used to die cut the squirrel, the two powders were kept separate so there would be a dark and light tone to die cut.

  • Three Tattered Leaves and the word 'autumn' from Four Seasons were cut from the pigment coloured water colour paper.

  • The body of the squirrel and acorns were cut from the paper with Sepia and the squirrel details and caps of the acorns from Golden Sparkler. The eye and ear details were cut from white and black card stock. The squirrel and acorns were assembled.

  • Warm Hugs and 'autumn' from Four Seasons were die cut three times each from Schoolhouse Red card stock and stacked. The 'autumn' die cut from the pigment powder paper was adhered on top of the red stacked words

  • The word 'autumn' was adhered in the middle of the Warm Hugs sentiment.

  • The largest die from Simon's Nested Domed Arches was used to cut the card base. A panel of Neenah Classic Crest 110 lb cardstock sized 5 1/2" by 8 1/2" was scored and creased on the long side at 4 1/4". The die was placed on the panel so that the cutting edge on one side of the arch was slightly overhanging the fold on the card base. Low tack tape was used to hold the die in place as it was rolled through the die cutter.

  • Sea Glass card stock and sheet foam were cut with the second largest die from Nested Domed Arches. The card stock arch was adhered to the foam.

  • The sentiment was adhered to the top of dome slightly overhanging the top. Tattered Leaves die cuts were positioned on the bottom. Adhesive was applied to the stems only so the leaves could be propped up for added dimension. The stem ends were trimmed off flush with the blue dome panel.

  • The foam backed blue panel was centred and adhered to the card base and the squirrel and acorns attached.

  • The card was embellished with pretty embellishments; pale yellow, green and peach sequins. They were finished off with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew.
