There is something so charming about the Spellbinders Whimsical Village Collection by Vicky Papaioannou. True to its name, this collection feels like it stepped right out of a fairytale. Today I’m sharing three cards featuring Whimsical Houses, Whimsical Blooms, Village Companions, and Whimsical Wishes. All three designs are built on colourful backgrounds created with Colour Block Accent Arches and Perfect Touch Arches and all of the die cutting was completed using Spellbinders Colorwheel Cardstock.

Card Details

The first card features Whimsical Blooms in soft pastel colours for a cheerful, airy design. A panel of Windy cardstock was trimmed to 4 1/4” x 5 1/2” and adhered to an A2 card base. To create the hillside, one of the dies from Perfect Touch Arches was cut from white cardstock for the base layer, while a die from Colour Block Accent Arches was cut from patterned paper from the older Stampendous Joy of Spring. Although this paper is no longer available at Spellbinders, any patterned paper with a soft design that coordinates with your colour palette will work perfectly. The layered arches were trimmed to fit along the lower portion of the card front and adhered in place.

The flowers were die cut from Blush, Chiffon, and Ivory cardstock, while the stems were cut from Rainforest cardstock. To add extra dimension, I also die cut the stems from foam and stacked them behind the cardstock stems. When arranging the blooms, I used CENTERLINE Measuring Tape lined up with the grid on my work surface over the card. This tape is perfect because it removes easily without damaging cardstock and allowed me to keep all of the stems perfectly aligned while adhering them. The sentiment from Whimsical Wishes was stamped in black ink directly onto the soft sky background.

The second pair of cards features the adorable Whimsical Houses. The card bases themselves were created using the largest die from Perfect Touch Arches. White cardstock was folded in half and the top edge of the arch die was positioned slightly above the fold line to create shaped card bases. A second white die cut was layered on top followed by patterned paper cut using the largest die from Colour Block Accent Arches using the same Joy of Spring patterned paper.

For both house cards, I kept a similar colour palette using Mulberry, Violet, Tuscan, and Blue Spruce cardstock for both the houses and floral elements from Whimsical Blooms. One of my favourite parts of these dies is all of the tiny details that make each house feel unique and full of personality. The flowers were tucked either behind or alongside the houses to build playful little scenes, with both the flowers and houses popped up using foam squares for extra depth.

To finish these village scenes, I added fences, clouds, suns, along with the tiny dog and cat from Village Companions. These sweet little additions really help create the fairytale feel. Each card was completed with sentiments from Whimsical Wishes.

Closing Thoughts

These cards were finished with sequins in gold, iridescent, and soft pink, each topped with drops of Nuvo Crystal Drops in Morning Dew for extra shine and texture. I absolutely love how playful and storybook-inspired this collection feels — the combination of whimsical houses, sweet blooms, and tiny companion elements makes it incredibly easy to create charming little scenes full of personality.
