Alex Syberia Designs "Thank You For Being My Friend" featuring Cindy-Lou’s Poppies

Updated: Feb 24, 2023

Hello fellow card makers! I am excited to be participating in an Instagram Hop to celebrate Alex Syberia Designs' new release, Thank You For Being My Friend. I have another card featuring Alex Syberia Designs' Cindy-Lou's Poppies Stamp Set but this time on a background using the gorgeous Floral Lattice.

Be sure to check out Instagram and hop along! There are great prizes to win!

  • The Full February Release Bundle!!

  • £15 gift card to Alex Syberia Designs!

  • The flower images were stamped on Canson XL Water Colour paper with black Versafine ink.

  • The images were coloured with Colot Burst Pigment Powders; Merlot for the poppy head and Terre Verte for the stem and leaves. Very vibrant!

  • To paint the stem and leaves, powder was picked up with a wet paintbrush and applied to images.

  • For the flower, one petal was painted at a time. The petal was wetted well and the powder tapped directly from the bottle at the base of the petal. The water will pull the colour creating a gradient. Some help will be needed with the paintbrush to get crisp edges along the stamped lines. Applying the powder to the wet surface creates greater contrast between the shadow and highlight areas. A paintbrush with powder on it was applied along each petal's crease lines.

  • Alternate petals were painted. Before painting one next to a coloured petal, it must be completely dry or the paint will 'wick' into it. Use the touch test for dryness. Touch it lightly with a fingertip. If it is room temperature, it is dry. If it is cool, there is moisture present.

  • CHECK OUT A VIDEO TUTORIAL OF ANOTHER CARD BEING PAINTED WITH THIS METHOD; Pigment Powders and Alex Syberia Designs' Gardenia Duo.

  • Floral Lattice was cut three times from ivory card stock. One die cut panel was inked lightly with Distress Oxide inks Picked Raspberry and Spun Sugar. The three panels were stacked and adhered to navy blue card stock measuring 4.25" by 5.5" and then onto an A2 sized card base.

  • The stem was adhered first using a thin foam strip. The poppy and leaves were mounted with adhesive foam squares.

Tip:

To align the foil plate to the shadow die cut, I cut the foil with the shadow die. It will not cut through but leaves an outline of shadow die. Using low tack tape, the shadow die cut and foil plate are lined up with the outline on the foil creating the sandwich ready to be popped onto a hot foil system.

  • The sentiment was stacked on a black foam die cut and adhered to the card.

  • The card was embellished with confetti finished with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew.
