Watercolouring a 3D Embossed Image featuring Spellbinders' BEAUTIFUL BLOOMS

Hello, everyone! You have to check out Spellbinders' new release of 3D embossing folders. The dimension of these images are amazing! I will be doing a few posts over the next week featuring Tile Mosaic, Beveled Diamonds and, for today's cards, Beautiful Blooms.

These folders are large measuring 5 3/4" by 8 3/4". Perfect for making any size of card and also perfect for creating '2 for 1' A2 sized cards .... which is exactly what I did! I began by embossing watercolour paper the same size as the folder. For the white background cards, Canson XL water colour was used. Stonehenge Aqua Coldpress was used for the black backgrounds. Spellbinders' has released the Universal Plate System that will accommodate anything from wafer die to the 3D embossing folders. It is a set of seven plates that work in manual die-cutting machines such as the Platinum, Platinum 6 and Big Shot Machines. I do not have this set yet so I used the Gemini electric die cutter. For the sandwich, I used one cutting plate and the plastic shim.

For the white panel, the images were water coloured with Mijello Mission Gold. The beautiful mica paints by Iuile (found on Etsy) were used for the black panel. The water colouring is very easy! The paint is applied to each bloom and leaf and it naturally flows into the crevices creating shadow areas. After the panels were painted, they were spattered with Distress Stain Tarnished Brass. I left them to dry and embossed them again as the water softens the edges. They are easily lined up and the result is nice crisp images. To accentuate the high points of the flowers, a white ink pad was lightly rubbed over top.

The panels were trimmed down to card front size, 4" by 5 1/4", and mounted on gold mirror card stock measuring 4 1/8" by 5 3/8". The white background panels were adhered to white A2 sized card bases and the black ones to black card bases. The sentiments from Layered Mix and Match and Stitched For You have script dies accompanied with shadow dies. All of the shadow dies were cut from gold card stock and foam. The script was either white or black to correspond with the background. Spellbinders' new Pink Opalescent Color Essential Sequins embellished the white background cards. Gold confetti was used on the other two. All the confetti was finished off with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew.
