Hello everyone! I have a pair of cards from Spellbinders' Amazing Grace collection featuring a gorgeous die set, Sweet Rondure. This is an elegant die cut design but I decided to have some fun with it and do them up in rainbow colours ... one bright and playful, the other more refined but with a fun pop of colour. FYI ... this die set also comes with some beautiful florals!
Full On Rainbow
I began the 'full on' rainbow card by die cutting the rondure, the graceful round design, out of Bristol Smooth and matte gold card stock (I retained the bristol smooth frame for the second card). I also die cut foam and keep the entire design in tact. Each section of the rondure was coloured with Karin markers; Red, Grass, Canary, Neon Orange, Egyptian Blue, Cyan, Red Lilac and Cerise. I then 'painted' all the pieces with Nuvo Glitter Drops White Blizzard. White Blizzard, in spite of its name, dries clear and is the most sparkly of the sparkly! I apply a thin layer with a paint brush and then follow with clean water to smooth it out. Tombow glue is applied to the fine matte gold frame and left to dry. When Tombow dries, it is tacky and repostionable making it easy to align the frame on the impression of the foam rondure. Following rainbow order, the sparkly sections are inlaid.
The background for this card was created again on Bristol Smooth. The same Karin markers were used to create bands of colour in rainbow order. A paint brush and clean water was used to blend the colours where they met. The background was hot foiled using Spellbinders' Modern Lines Hot Foil Plate. The panel had to be foiled twice to cover the background. Check out another post, Love Is In the Air , that includes a short video tutorial on repeat foiling with no overlapping. The background was die cut with a sc alloped frame and mounted on foam before being attached to a top folding, A2 sized card base. The sentiments, from Spellbinders' Mini Everyday Sentiments, were hot foiled with matte gold foil and die cut with flag end die included in the sentiment set. The strips were mounted on foam. The card was finished off with iridescent confetti topped with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew.
Refined with a Touch of Fun
My second card is quite a bit less playful than the first and has a more elegant feel. I used the Bristol Smooth frame from the first card and with the same Karin markers, painted each of the swirls following rainbow order. Again the rondure was mounted on foam and the frame adhered as in the first card. The inlaid pieces for this card were die cut from Neenah Classic Crest 110 lb card stock.
To create the background, I used post it tape to hold all six frames from Spellbinders' Scalloped Rectangle Glimmer Essentials together and then placed on the Hot Foil System. White card stock was foiled with matte silver foil and the panel cut with a stitched rectangle die. The sentiment, from Spellbinders' Mini Everyday Sentiments, were hot foiled with matte silver foil as well and die cut with flag end die included in the sentiment set. The strip was mounted on foam. The card was finished off with iridescent confetti topped with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew.
