Rainbow Fun or Teal Elegance with Alex Syberia Designs’ Carnival Party

Hello everyone! Alex Syberia Design has turned 1 and the September release is all about celebrations! I adore the Carnival Party Stencil and Die Set. This layering stencil set is very easy to use and FUN to play with! There are two dies to cut out the spinners (is that what they are called?!) to add some dimension to the design.

Both cards are A2 sized, 4 1/4" by 5 1/2". The soft teal card has been stencilled with both ink and texture paste while the rainbow card is just inked. There are two stencils; two layers for both the streamers and spinners. When stenciling each of the two elements, I used Post It Note Tape to cover the edges of the openings of the one I was not working on to prevent an OOPS!

  • For this card, Distrss Oxide Ink was applied with daubers on Bristol Smooth card stock. Lots of different inks to produce this rainbow effect ... a light and a dark tone for each of the six colours!

  • For Stencil 1, starting on the left hand side the lighter tones were applied first; Kitsch Flamingo, Dried Marigold, Scattered Straw, Peeled Paint, Tumbled Glass and Shaded Lilac.

  • Stencil 2 was inked with Picked Raspberry, Carved Pumpkin, Mustard Seed, Mowed Lawn, Salty Ocean and Dusty Concord. As the different colours were applied, they were overlapped slightly from one streamer to the next.

  • The spinners were inked on a separate panel. For the large one, the first three light and dark tones used on the streamers were applied. Again Stencil 1 for the light tones and Stencil 2 for the dark ones. The smaller spinner was stencilled using the 4th, 5th and 6th colours.

  • The coordinating dies were used to cut both the spinners and sheet foam. The spinners were stacked.

  • The panel with the streamers was cut with the largest die from the Nested Scalloped Frames Die Set and adhered to an A2 sized card base. The spinners were adhered.

  • The Birthday Wishes Sentiments Stamp Set was used for the main sentiment. HAPPY was stamped with black Versafine ink and the first three colours in the light tones used on the images were used for BIRTHDAY. The sentiments and foam were cut with the coordinating dies, stacked and adhered to the card front.

  • The secondary sentiment strip from Celebrations Sentiments Hot Foil Plate was foiled with rainbow hot foil on white card stock. The sentiments were cut with Thin Stripes Cover Die. The sentiment was mounted on foam and adhered to the card.

  • The card and the centres of the spinners were embellished with rainbow confetti finished off with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew.

  • The second card was stenciled on teal card stock. Seafoam Pawsitively Saturated Ink was applied with a blending brush using Stencil 1.

  • Using a palette knife, a shimmery white texture paste was applied to Stencil 2.

  • Like the previous card, the spinners were stencilled on a separate piece of teal card stock and, when completely dry, cut with the coordinating dies.

  • The panel was spattered using a fan brush and Dr. PH Martin's Bleed Proof White.

  • A die from the Nested Scalloped Frames Die Set was used to cut both the panel and foam. They were stacked.

  • To create the shaped card base, white card stock 11" by 4 1/2 " ( the width is oversized) was creased at 5 1/2" on the long side. The largest die from the Nested Scalloped Frames Die Set was positioned so that the top of the die would overhang the crease leaving it intact after going through the die cutter.

  • Soft teal glitter card stock was cut with the same die and the panel was adhered to the card base.

  • The foam backed smaller panel was centred on the card and the spinners attached.

  • Using the It's Your Birthday Hot Foil Plate and Die Set, silver hot foil was foiled on teal card stock. The sentiment and foam were cut with the die, stacked and adhered to the card.

  • Satin Aqua Pearls complete the card.
