Painting with Karin Markers

Updated: Jan 12

Hello everyone! I am excited to be up on Alex Syberia's Blog today with a beautiful digital image, Winter Garden, from the February release. There are so many benefits to working with digital stamps! One of the main reasons I love them is having the ability to resize the image.

I began this card by printing the image full size on an 8 1/2" by 11" piece of Bristol Smooth card stock and masking paper. The upper left hand corner was die cut with largest stitched rectangle from My Favorite Things' Stitched Rectangles Stax 2 in a profile orientation. The lower right hand corner was also cut with this die to maintain the stitched detail. This corner panel was fussy cut along the floral edge. The full panel was masked and the background ink blended with Distress Oxide inks; Iced Spruce, Pumice Stone and Hickory Smoke.

The colouring process with Karin markers began with a colour wash. After wetting the image, the water colour was scribbled on an acrylic plate and picked up with a damp #8 water brush. The details for the flowers were painted by applying the marker directly to the base of the petal and along any creases, and pulling the colour out with the water brush, I worked with the following colours; Skin 2 (201), Gold (283), Apple (210), Curry (257). Red Lilac (358) and Almond (216). The sentiment, Maker Forte's Christmas Rose, was embossed in gold. The full panel was attached to a top-folding, A2 sized card base and the foam backed corner panel adhered to the lower right side. The card was embellished with gold confetti and topped with Nuvo Crystal Drops, Morning Dew.
