The Felt Christmas Trees from the Christmas Stitch & Create collection (I Want It All Bundle) by Nichol Spohr with Spellbinders are such a lovely way to create handmade Christmas ornaments! I made two trees, one in ice blue and the other in green, each featuring a different stitched design and beautiful metallic embroidery thread. These ornaments are a wonderful addition to the Christmas tree and would also make thoughtful handmade gifts. I have included a few tips to help make assembling and stitching these felt ornaments a little easier.

Christmas Ornament Details

I began by die-cutting all the elements from felt. To ensure nice, clean cuts, I like to add a piece of copy paper folded in half as a shim when die-cutting felt with my machine. This extra layer helps the dies cut through the felt more effectively.

The die set includes a border die and two insert dies to create the stitching designs. For each tree, I used the border die to cut a felt panel for the backing, along with a piece of cardstock. I trimmed the cardstock down to fit within the perimeter stitching holes. The cardstock sits between the felt backing and the stitched front panel, giving the ornament additional stability and helping it hold its shape.

Next, I used the border die along with the appropriate insert die to cut the front of each ornament, creating the stitching holes for the decorative designs.

For the ice blue tree, I used silver metallic embroidery thread to stitch the snowflake design. For the green tree, I chose gold metallic embroidery thread to stitch the diamond pattern. I also die-cut the scalloped-edge pieces, layering them and stitching them onto the front of the green tree for added detail.

Once the decorative stitching was complete, I used a simple running stitch to join the front and back panels, with the cardstock layer sandwiched between them.

Here is a handy tip for adding the ornament hanger! Before beginning to stitch each tree together, I decided where I wanted the hanger to sit and left an extra-long piece of embroidery floss at that point. Once I had finished stitching the ornament, I simply tied the two ends together to create the hanger. It is an easy little trick that saves having to attach a hanger afterward!

To finish the trees, I added gold sequins to the green tree and ice blue sequins to the blue tree. I used Nuvo Morning Dew Crystal Drops in the centres of the sequins to add a lovely finishing touch.

The die set also includes three snowflakes in different sizes. I die-cut these from white felt and adhered them to the ice blue tree. I finished the centres with blue sequins and more Nuvo Morning Dew Crystal Drops to coordinate with the rest of the design.

Closing Thoughts

I had so much fun creating these Felt Christmas Trees ornaments! I love how the metallic embroidery thread adds a subtle sparkle, while the sequins and Crystal Drops provide just the right amount of Christmas shine. The ice blue and green colour combinations give each tree its own personality, and the layered felt makes them feel extra special.

These ornaments would look beautiful hanging on the Christmas tree, tied onto a special gift, or even used as part of a festive table setting. Handmade Christmas decorations are always a little more meaningful, and these sweet felt trees are sure to become treasured additions to the holiday season!
