There is just something so delightfully whimsical about the Hero Arts Don’t Stop Believing collection. From the dreamy landscape to the adorable mythical creature, this release feels like stepping into a storybook. For today’s card, I paired the Unbelievably Awesome Stamp & Cut set with the Lake of Legends Stencil Set and the coordinating Unbelievably Awesome Banner set to create this playful birthday card featuring the sweetest little sea serpent.

CARD DETAILS
The background was created first using the Lake of Legends four-piece stencil set on white cardstock. Distress Oxide inks in Pumice Stone, Speckled Egg, Shaded Lilac, and Seedless Preserves blended together beautifully to create the soft dreamy landscape. Once complete, the panel was trimmed down to 4 1/4” x 5 1/2” and adhered to an A2 sized card base. I absolutely love how the soft purples and muted tones give this scene such a magical, misty feel.

The adorable sea serpent, seaweed, cloud, and sentiments are all from the Unbelievably Awesome Stamp & Cut set, while the birthday banner comes from the coordinating banner set. All of the images were stamped onto white cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink since I planned to colour everything with Copic markers. The upper portion of the serpent, which sits above the water, was coloured with RV32 and RV34. For the underwater sections of the body, I first used the same pink tones and then softened everything with BG72 to create that underwater appearance. The seaweed was coloured with YG93 and YG97, while the tiny cloud was coloured with C0 and C3.
For the banner from Unbelievably Awesome Banner, I created a soft pink gradient using RV34 along the lower portion and blending upward with RV32. The pole was coloured with C3. After colouring, all of the images were cut using the coordinating dies. One especially clever detail in this set is the tiny die that cuts a slit into the swirl of the serpent’s tail so the banner pole can tuck perfectly into place. I also cut white sheet foam for the banner, seaweed, and upper portion of the serpent to add dimension while keeping the underwater sections flat against the background.

To assemble the card, I began with the serpent. The centre upper hump of the body was positioned first, and then the underwater sections were aligned and adhered on either side. Once the body was in place, I attached the head and tail sections. The banner pole was tucked neatly into the tail after removing a tiny bit of foam adhesive from that area. I then added the extra cloud and seaweed to frame the scene and finished everything off by stamping the sentiment “Love You Lochs” directly beneath the serpent.
This card makes me smile every time I look at it. The playful sentiment paired with the adorable little sea serpent is just too fun, and I love how the soft stencilled background creates the perfect magical setting. This collection is full of charm and would be wonderful for birthdays, encouragement cards, or just sending a little whimsical happiness through the mail.
