Flat Shaker Peek-a-boo Card featuring Simon Says Stamp’s Butterfly Dreams

Updated: Jun 20, 2022

Hello everyone! Simon Says Stamp’s new release, LET’S CHILL, is really amazing ... so many wonderful products including this gorgeous stamp set, Butterfly Dreams! This card combines a flat shaker with a peek-a-boo window … a fun card to make. It is one layer so if you are looking for an idea to make a special card for someone far away, this one is mail friendly!

I began by preparing my card stock; 2 panels of light weight (80lb) white and one black measuring 4” by 5 1/4”. They were lined up wth one side of an A2 sized card base and die cut with a circle for the window opening. Just the top two white panels were cut and an impression was left on the black panel and card base. The next largest die from a nesting circle die set was centred over the impression and cut.

The die cut circle was replaced in one of the white panels and it was stencilled with Build A Rainbow using blender brushes and PAWSITIVELY Saturated Inks; Seafoam, Celery, Lemonade and Cheeky. This ink needs drying time before embossing. The black panel was cut with Stitched Rectangles and adhered to the card base. The two white panels were trimmed down to 5” by 3 3/4”. Using the same size circle die as the card base, two pieces of heat resistant acetate were cut. One circle was adhered with Sookwang Double-sided Tape to the front of the white panel.

The other acetate circle was centred over the back of the stencilled panel window opening and placed into a Misti with the Sticky Mat insert to hold both pieces securely. Both were treated well with anti-static powder. The die cut circle was replaced over the acetate and panel stamped with the butterflies and sentiment using Versamark ink. The panel was coated with gold embossing powder and the cards stock circle removed from the acetate so it could also be stamped and coated with embossing powder. The powder was melted with a heat tool that had been preheated.

The embossed acetate was lined up with the butterflies on the panel and adhered with double sided tape. More double sided tape was placed on the edge of the acetate on the white panel. Confetti was placed on the acetate. Liquid adhesive was applied to the rest of the panel and the stencilled panel adhered to it. The stencilled circle die cut was centred and adhered on the inside panel through the window on the card base and the flat shaker adhered to the card front. Confetti finished off with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew complete the card.
