Card Details

I started with two black A2 card bases. One was covered with Colorwheel Cardstock Tutu, while the second features a beautiful amber floral patterned paper from the Hello It’s Me 6” x 6” Paper Pack.

The vinyl record was die cut from black cardstock. Using the coordinating stencil, I added Distress Oxide Ink Hickory Smoke with a small blending brush, applying the ink in curved strokes that followed the grooves of the record rather than blending it into a solid finish. This simple technique creates the illusion of movement, making the record appear as though it’s spinning on the turntable.

Once inked, the record was adhered to the upper left corner of each card. The centre portion of the record is a separate die-cut piece, making it easy to layer and add dimension.

The record labels are designed as two halves, allowing endless colour combinations. For the pink version, I used Chiffon and Blush Colorwheel Cardstock, carefully aligning the curved edges with the outside of the record. On the second card, I used the amber floral patterned paper along with a coordinating teal patterned paper for a completely different look.

The playful sentiments from the Solid Gold Stamp Set were stamped in black ink directly onto the labels, becoming part of the record design.

To finish the record player, I added both the tonearm and the turn dial. The tonearm was die cut from specialty glitter cardstock for a bit of sparkle, while the accent pieces were cut from Colour Wheel Chiffon cardstock on one card and teal patterned paper on the other. The turn dial was created from black cardstock with coordinating Chiffon and teal accents.

For added dimension, I die cut each of the tonearms and turn dials from black sheet foam before adhering them to the cards. Before attaching these final elements, I trimmed away any portions of the record labels that extended on the card front for a clean, finished appearance.
