Create A Background with Masks & Stencils featuring Picket Fence Studios’ DONE ADULTING FOR THE DAY

Hello everyone! Welcome to Picket Fence Studios' June release! My first card features an adorable stamp set, Done Adulting For The Day. I have set the image on a beach at sunset …. my favourite place to chill out and enjoy the ambience when I am on vacation at the seaside. This is a one layer card using masks and stencils to create a background for this awesome image.

The image was stamped with Intense Black ink on a panel of Bristol Smooth card stock and masking paper. The outline of the image on the masking paper was cut inside the stamped line. Distress Oxide inks were used with Life Changing Blender Brushes to colour the background. Now for the easy part! After the image was masked, Post It Note Tape was used to mask off the horizon. To begin creating the sandy foreground, Antique Linen was applied. The tape was dropped down to mask the top of the beach and another strip of tape was added to mask the beginning of the sky. This area will become the sea. Slim Line Ocean Stencil was placed over this section and Mermaid Lagoon was applied. The stencil was shifted and inked with Faded Jeans. The top the sea was masked with the tape and the sunset was created with Fossilized Amber, Spiced Marmalade, Candied Apple and Faded Jeans

The Post It Note tape was shifted to the bottom of the sea to add texture to the sand. Slim Line Ocean Stencil was used again but this time with Versamark ink applied just to the narrow waves using a small Life Changing Blender Brushes. Hero Arts’ Sand embossing powder was applied. To finish up the background, the sea was masked off and the Slim Line Ocean Stencil was lined up so the dark blue was exposed and Sparkle Paper Glitz was applied.

The image was Copic coloured:

  • Hat - YR18, 14, 12

  • Drink, Flip Flops, Cothing - YR09, R85

  • Skin Tone - E21, 01, 00

The 4” by 5 1/4” panel was matted with black card stock and adhered to an A2 sized card base. Sequins finished off with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew from Beach Vibes Sequin Mix complete the card.

HUMMINGBIRD'S SONG

My second card is a simple emboss resist technique featuring a gorgeous image, Hummingbird's Song. Although not used for this card, there is a coordinating die for this stamp set. The image was stamped twice with Intense Black Ink on Bristol Smooth card stock and clear embossed. Using Life Changing Blender Brushes, Distress Oxide inks Candied Apple, Seedless Preserves and Faded Jeans were applied to the panel. When the panel was dry, the ink sitting on top of the embossed image was buffed off.

The panel was trimmed to card front size, 4" by 5 1/4", ] and adhered to a black matted, top folding card base. A few embellishments from Under the Sea and Shark Watch sequin mixes were used to finish off the card. The sequins were topped off with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew.
