Card Details
The background for these two cards is a two-for-one deal! An oversized panel of Watercolour Paper was painted with a loose wash using Watercolour Pan Set in Yellow, Indigo, Persian Blue, and Dark Green. Once completely dry, the panel was cut into two A2-sized pieces (4¼” x 5½”). Both panels were then spattered with white opaque paint and a few flicks of black paint for added texture before being adhered to A2 card bases.
Each card showcases the graceful blooms from the Garden Cosmos Layering Die Set. The stems, foliage, and flower centres were cut from Moon Rock Cardstock, while the petals were die cut from vellum. A blending brush was used to softly ink the vellum petals — several with Puffy Heart Fresh Dye Ink and others with Sunray Fresh Dye Ink, blending the color from the center outward to create a soft gradient effect.
One of Altenew’s best design features shines here: the KEYHOLE SYSTEM! Each element includes a unique symbol for the layered die cuts that ensures perfect alignment when assembling the flowers — no confusion or guessing required! Altenew even provides a step-by-step layering guide for easy reference.
Once the flowers and foliage were arranged on the watercolor backgrounds, each card was finished with a simple sentiment stamped on leftover watercolor paper from the background and a few Nature’s Wonders Enamel Dots for a touch of shine.
