Altenew has done it again — another thoughtful, beautifully curated release that makes it almost impossible to pick a favourite. The March Collection feels fresh, soft, and full of spring promise, and the Craft-A-Flower - Clematis Layering Die Set, completely stole my heart. Those large, graceful blooms are just made for inky blending and dimension.

Card Details

I began with an A2 panel of watercolour paper and generously sprayed it with water. While the surface was still wet, I applied Distress Stains in Tarnished Brass, Tattered Rose, and Kitsch Flamingo. Working on a wet panel allowed the colours to move and blend organically, creating that dreamy, soft-focus background. Once completely dry, the panel was adhered to an A2 card base.

The Clematis Layering Die Set includes two large blooms along with coordinating leaves. All layers were die cut from white cardstock so I could fully customize the colour with ink blending.

For the petals, I used Fresh Dye Inks in a blend of Blush, Cloud White, and Sunray, building colour gradually with mini blending brushes for a soft, luminous look. The flower centres were inked with Cosmic Berry, while the stamens were blended with Sunray toward the centre and deepened at the tips with more Cosmic Berry for contrast and realism.

The leaves were inked using Shadow Creek, Jade and Mountain Pine, creating rich depth that really grounds the soft florals. Assembly is effortless thanks to Altenew’s KEYHOLE SYSTEM — everything lines up beautifully. The flowers and leaves were adhered directly to the background so I could pop up the sentiment for added dimension.

Another standout from this release is the Outlined Hello die. I cut it from Arctic Mountain cardstock and layered it over white craft foam for stability and lift. The bold script sits perfectly across the lower portion of the blooms, slightly overlapping the leaves for a cohesive design.

To finish the card, I scattered a few Sugar Plum Enamel Dots for a subtle touch of shine and balance.

Closing Thoughts

This card feels like spring captured on paper — soft washes of colour, delicate layered petals, and a bold sentiment that ties it all together. The Clematis set is such a versatile addition to any floral collection, and paired with that outlined greeting, it creates a card that’s both elegant and modern.
