Hello everyone! I have another card from Alex Syberia's May Digi Stamp release .... Succulent Close Up. I really love oversized botanical images and this one is a beauty. I did not have time to do a video but will 'walk' you through the process I used to create this sympathy card.
Because I planned on using a lot of water on this card, I needed to use a heavier paper than my printer could handle. I printed the image on copy paper and used a light box to trace this design on Canson Watercolor Paper. The panel was die cut with a rectangular stitched die.
To create depth in my painted image, I wanted to have bits of blues, reds and golds as a base before painting. I used a large paint brush to apply water to the panel .... enough water to create a sheen. I applied Nuvo Shimmer Powders, Golden Sparkler and Atlantis Burst, by tapping the powder lightly on to the wet paper. The powders are very pigmented and a little goes a long way. I was not trying to colour my panel but rather, I wanted pops of colour here and there. After painting with the Zig markers, these small bursts of colour will have a subtle appearance.
After the panel was completely dry, I used Zig markers to paint the leaves. At the base of each leaf, I applied first Marine Green and then a Light green. A water brush pen was used to blend the colours and create a gradient to the tip of the leaf. The bands on some of the leaves were painted with Green Shadow, a very pale green to highlight the leaf edges. This panel was mounted on black card stock and adhered to an A2 sized card base.
The sentiment HUGS and 3 little hearts were die cut from matte gold cardstock and black sheet foam. The sentiment strip was created with Simon Says Stamp's Moments of Grace, embossed with gold on black cardstock and die cut with Simon Says Stamp's Sentiment Labels. The strip was also mounted on black sheet foam. When all these elements were adhered to the panel, Glossy Accents was used on the hearts.
