Stencilled Watercolour featuring Simon Says Stamp’s Autumn Splendor

Hello everyone! I have another interesting stencilling technique featuring Simon Says Stamp's Autumn Splendor. Although this stencil, as the name suggests, was designed to celebrate Fall, the shimmery colours I chose have transformed it into a Christmas card!

I began this card with an A2 sized panel of black Stonehenge Aqua Coldpress watercolour paper. The stencil was positioned and held in place with Pixie spray adhesive. This adhesive is light tack and holds the stencil in place but will not damage the paper or leave behind any residue.

Tip ... When water colouring with stencils, a repositionable spray adhesive will prevent the paint from seeping under the stencil and distorting the image.

Gansai Tambi pearlescent and metallic watercolours are fabulous for painting on black watercolour paper. I find it best to put a couple of drops of water directly into the pans of colour and letting the paint 'soften' for a minute or so before painting. The leaves were painted with Gansai Tambi Pearl Green and the background with Blue Gold from Gansai Tambi Starry Colors. After the stencil was removed, a wash of the blue gold was applied around the bottom of the image and allowed to fade by wetting the lower right hand corner with water.

After the panel was completely dry, it and black sheet foam were die cut with Simon Says Stamp's Joy shadow die. The script partner die was used to cut matte gold card stock and then glued to the shadow die cut. The sheet foam was adhered to the panel and glued to an A2 sized card base. The sentiment was recessed into the panel. The card was finished up with Pink Champagne Glitter Drops on the berries.

Thank you so much for your visit!
