Spring Flowers featuring Alex Syberia Designs

Updated: Jan 12

Thank you so much for visiting today! I am honoured to be a Guest Designer for Alex Syberia Designs (Blog Link). I am featuring the newly released digital images, Happy Flower and Sketched Peony, in two cards using similar techniques. Although the video will focus more on Happy Flower, this post will outline how both cards were created.

I printed the images of Happy Flower and Sketched Peony on masking paper and Neenah Solar White 80lb card stock. The masks were cut just slightly shy of the outline of the images to minimize a white halo around the image when ink blending the background. Distress Oxide Inks, Black Soot and Pumice Stone, were applied. The ink was completely dry before copic colouring the flowers. Happy Flower was die cut using the largest heart in Sizzix' nesting dies. The panel for Peony was cut to 4 1/8" by 5 3/8".

Happy Flower is an oversized card. A background was created for this card using multiple, smaller images of Happy Flower. Initially, I printed the background on card stock but liked the softer appearance using vellum paper. The vellum paper was cut down to approximately 6 ½" by 6 ½" and wrapped around a 5 7/8" by 5 7/8" white card stock panel.

Happy Flower was Copic coloured with R37, 35, 32 and 30. BG75 and 72 was used for the stem. The stamens in the flower centre were coloured with a black gel pen. The gel pen ink needs drying time!

Sketched Peony was coloured with RV69, 66, 63 and 000. Y18 and 08 were used in the flower centre. The colourless blender was used for both flowers to enhance the highlights on the petals. White dotted details for both cards were created with a white gel pen.

To finish the card, the vellum background for Happy Flower was mounted on 6" by 6" black cardstock before adhering it to the card base. The heart was backed with black sheet foam and attached at a slight angle to the background. The sentiments were die cut from matte gold cardstock and black sheet foam to be stacked. A few sequins finished with Morning Dew drops were placed around the card. Mustard Gold accents finished the card.

Sketched Peony was mounted on 4 1/4" by 5 ½ " black card stock before being attached to a card base measuring the same. The sentiment was die cut from a small copic coloured panel using R37, 35 and 32 and mounted on the shadow die cut using black cardstock mounted on foam. Sequins finished with Morning Dew wrap up then Sketched Peony card.
