There’s something instantly joyful about a trio of bunnies, especially when they’re paired with soft spring colours and playful shaped card bases. This sweet set of cards features the Bunny Buddies die set from Simon Hurley’s Happy Spring collection for Spellbinders, with each small A5 card showcasing a different bunny and colour story. They’re perfect for Easter, but versatile enough to stretch well beyond the holiday.

Supplies

Card Details

Each bunny was assembled first, using mostly white cardstock for the bodies, with small accent pieces cut from ColorWheel cardstock in Blush, Mint, and Bellini for the ears, cheeks, and accessories. Keeping the bunnies primarily white allows them to really stand out against the softly coloured backgrounds.

The shaped card bases were created using a die from the Arch Label & Tag Die Set. The die was positioned over the crease of folded white cardstock to create a hinge. Since the very top of the arch is trimmed away in this process, an additional white arch was die cut and adhered on top to restore the full shape.

To build the layered arches, the next consecutive smaller dies were used to cut Blush, Mint, and Bellini cardstock, each adhered directly to its coordinating card base. For the focal background layer, a third arch was die cut from watercolour paper using the next smallest die.

To create the marbled look, the watercolour paper was sprayed generously with water, then misted with Distress Oxide sprays. Each card features a different colour combination using Abandoned Coral, Tattered Rose, and Merry Mint. Once dry, Picket Fence Distress Oxide was lightly added to highlight areas and soften the overall effect. These panels were then adhered to the card bases with foam tape, coordinating each colour to its matching card.

The Bunny Buddies die set includes a banner die with interchangeable sentiments—Happy Easter and Happy Spring. The banner was die cut from white cardstock, while the sentiment inserts were cut from coordinating coloured cardstock. The layered sentiment was popped up with foam squares and adhered near the bottom of each card.

Finally, the assembled bunnies were also popped up with foam squares and placed just above the sentiment banners. The cards were finished with Nuvo Crystal Drops in Simply White for a soft, dimensional accent.

Other Ways to Use These Bunnies

These Bunny Buddies are incredibly versatile and can be used in so many Easter and spring projects:

  • Create Easter tags by using the arch die without a hinge and adding twine or ribbon.

  • Use a single bunny as a focal embellishment on slimline or A2 cards.

  • Add them to treat bags or boxes for Easter baskets and classroom gifts.

  • Pair them with alphabet dies to create custom name cards for Easter table settings.

  • Use pastel vellum or patterned paper behind the bunnies for a completely different look.

Closing Thoughts

These Bunny Buddies cards perfectly capture the light, playful feel of spring. Between the soft marbled backgrounds, shaped arches, and sweet little bunnies, they’re full of charm and dimension without feeling fussy. Whether you’re making Easter cards, spring greetings, or festive gift packaging, this die set is one you’ll reach for again and again—it’s hard not to smile when these bunnies are involved.
