Simon Says Stamp’s Night Before Christmas … Two Ways!

Hello everyone! It is certainly getting busy and it seems there are not enough hours in a day. I typically lay out what I want to accomplish each day but I have a tendancy to 'over plan'. What I do not get done one day is added to the list for the next day. I feel like I am playing 'catch up' all the time ... like this post that I scheduled to post yesterday! But here it is! Simon Says Stamp's NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS is unique and fun to use! I have a two sets of cards that illustrate a couple of different ways to use this cling stamp.

INK SMOOSHING

For the first set of cards, I began by ink smooshing with Distress Oxide inks to create a background on Bristol Smooth card stock. The stamp is large and I wanted to capture the details of both the houses and Santa, so I am working with 5" by 7" panels. After the panels were dry, I used a stamping platform to stamp, again with Distress Oxides, the night sky. The image was stamped three times.

  • ink smooshing - Milled Lavender, Victorian Velvet, Antique Linen, Tattered Rose

  • stamping - Shaded Lilac, Villainous Purple, Faded Jeans

  • ink smooshing - Festive Berries, Pumice Stone, Chipped Sapphire

  • stamping - Chipped Sapphire, Festive Berries, Peacock Feathers

  • ink smooshing - Peeled Paint, Rustic Wilderness, Faded Jeans

  • stamping - Peacock Feathers, Rustic Wilderness, Faded Jeans

The silhouettes and the sentiment from Simon's Holiday Greetings Mix 1 were stamped with Black Onyx Versafine ink twice.

INK BLENDING

The background for these cards were ink blended on 5" by 7" Bristol Smooth card stock:

  • Chipped Sapphire, Peacock Feathers, Rustic Wilderness

  • Lucky Clover, Blueprint Sketch, Forest Moss

  • Faded Jeans, Villainous Purple, Dusty Concord

Hoping to do a resist technique to catch the star details, the night sky was stamped with Versamark ink and embossed with matte embossing powder. I tried a few inks (the embossed background gave me the freedom to do this!) but was not successful in helping those stars stand out. The stars were coloured with a white gel pen. The silhouettes were stamped with Black Onyx Versafine ink twice. The sentiments were die cut with Simon's HOPE and JOY dies using silver metallic card stock and foam and stacked.

The panels were trimmed down to 4 3/4" by 6 3/4" and mounted on black card stock that was slightly larger. The side folding card bases measure 5" by 7". The cards with the ink blended backgrounds were embellished with little snowflakes.
