Paper Piecing with Simon Says Stamp’s Outline Clustered Leaves

Updated: Jan 12

Hello everyone! I hope you are well and enjoying beautiful summer weather ... if you are on my side of the hemisphere!!! The weather in my neck of the woods is super hot! I used to love the heat but not so much anymore ... I am outside early morning and in the evening tending to the garden when the temperatures are bearable. The rest of the time is being spent in my air conditioned home ... I know! I am a wimp! But I am about to be put the test with the imminent arrival of my 12 year old grandson! I have a couple of days to acclimatize to the heat because he has plans for lots of 'social distanced' activities that apparently include me!

I have an easy, ‘JUST ABOUT NO STAMPING' card today featuring Simon Says Stamp's Outline Clustered Leaves! I like changing things up periodically and had fun making a card that focused on die cutting and paper piecing.

I began this card by adhering Ken Oliver's Stick It adhesive sheets to an oversized panel and over laid it with 1/2" strips of Simon Says Stamp's Card Stock. I chose soft colours .... Lavender, Cotton Candy, Lemon Chiffon, Surf Blue and Green Apple. This panel was die cut with half of the leafy branch and the 2nd largest rectangular die from My Favorite Thing's Stitched Rectangles Stax 2. Because I was essentially die cutting a double layer of card stock, a few passes through the die cutting machine was necessary. The leaves were also die cut from Matte Gold Card Stock and white sheet foam.

Before assembling the card, I created an impression on the paper pieced panel using the clustered leaves die. The gold outline was adhered to the panel. Several leaves were selected from both the gold and paper pieced die cuts. These leaves were backed with the foam die cuts before being adhered to the panel.

Several stamps were selected from Simon Says Stamp's You Got This. After laying them out on the panel using a Misti, I stamped them on scrap card stock to ensure the sentiments were straight. I then stamped the panel using Black Onyx Versafine ink. This panel was mounted on a lavender card stock stitched panel and then adhered to an A2 sized card base. The card was embellished with Nuvo Dream Drops; Cloud 9, Fairy Wings, Love Potion and Indigo Eclipse.
