Hello everyone! I have owned a Scan ‘n Cut for a couple of years and use it primarily to cut stamped images so I don’t have to buy the accompanying dies for stamp sets. All this time and I have never downloaded a cut file! With Alex Syberia Design’s new release, I decided it was high time I learned to use my machine to its capacity. Thankfully the process was straight forward and not at all complicated. Not sure why it took me so long to venture down this road! I am including a step by step overview of the basics thinking I couldn't be the only one who didn't know how to do this .... or am I?!!! ( I mean ... or was I? LOL)
I am working with the Scan ‘n Cut CM350. If you own another model, hopefully some or all of the steps apply to you. You will also need to download the free Brother Canvas Workspace application from their website. After I downloaded Magical Flower to my desktop, I imported it to the Canvas Workspace by selecting the SVG icon shown below.
After I checked the sizing of the cut file, I simply selected the drop down File Menu and clicked on the Export/Transfer FCM File. I am connected wirelessly to the Scan 'n Cut but if you do not have that capability, the file can be transferred on a thumb drive or by connecting your computer to the Scan 'n Cut with the USB cord that accompanied the machine.
Select PATTERN on the Scan 'n Cut.
For wireless, select the cloud icon and your cut file will appear.
And there it is! Due to my inexperience, I cut this file three times adjusting the pressure and blade depth each time until I got a clean cut. I used Neenah Classic Crest 80 lb card stock. I also cut a panel of black sheet foam and increased the blade depth to the maximum. it cut fairly well although I did have to pop out a few pieces.
With my cut file in hand, I was ready to start making my card! I began by stencilling the design on A2 sized card stock with a light coloured ink. The inked design would provide a guideline for Copic colouring. The panel was coloured with BG 45 and 49 at the base of the petals and BG 23 or 34 was used alternately for the highlight area. The colouring was pretty fast and messy ... not at all exact ... and that did not concern me at all! I was after a suggestion of shadows and highlights to add interest to the overall design.
The die cut panel was embossed with WOW! and adhered to the black foam panel before it was attached to a top folding, A2 sized card base. Nuvo Crystal Glaze was applied into the die cut openings. Simon Says Stamp Sending Smiles die was cut from card stock coloured to create an hombre effect using the same colours in the background panel. Teal card stock was cut three times. The sentiment was stacked, lightly coated with Gina K Glitz Glitter Gel and adhered to the card. The flower centre was given additional detail with gold confetti topped with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew.
