Light and Airy Tissue Paper Backdrop for Graciellie Design’s Simply Blessed

Updated: Jan 12

I fell in love with the pretty eucalyptus and cotton branches in Graciellie Design’s new release, Simply Blessed. I wanted to accentuate the airiness of the images and decided on backgrounds using tissue paper collage for one card while the other is copic coloured. My colour schemes are not a reflection of Okanagan Valley at this time ... like many of you, we are literally encased in a thick blanket of choking smoke from the fires. Hopefully these light and airy cards will brighten your day and for those of you in the danger zone, these cards are accompanied with heartfelt wishes for better days ... ASAP!!

Sending Smiles Slimline

For the first card, I printed three images of the branches on card stock and collaged it with torn pieces of yellow and green tissue paper. The tissue was glued down in loose bands of colour and then sealed with a mixture of watered down white glue. When the collage was completely dry, a panel was cut with the largest die in Pinkfresh Studios' Slim Stitched Rectangles Essentials die set.

The leaves were painted and the panel was spattered with diluted Winsor and Newton Gouache paint. While the spatters were still wet, fine green glitter was sprinkled on. The digital sentiment was turned vertically before being printed on vellum so it would be long enough to wrap around the panel. The sentiment strip measured 1 1/4" in width. The panel was adhered to white sheet foam before it was attached to black card stock measuring 8 3/4" by 3 3/4". The card base measured 8 7/8" by 3 7/8". Nuvo Dream Drops, Dragon Scales and Gold Luxe, were the finishing touches.

Grateful

After printing the image on Neenah Classic Crest 80 ib cardstock, the panel was cut with the largest die in My Favorite Things Stitched Rectangles Stax 2. Using Copic markers, I began by colouring the background in very soft hues with the lightest, BV000, in and around the leaves and working toward the right hand side of the panel with the darker tones, R000 and V0000. All of the images were coloured simply with a lighter and darker tone as follows:

Cotton Leaves V12, 15

Eucalyptus Leaves R81, 83

Glass & Shadow W0, 4

Water BG000, 01

The sentiment panel was coloured with V12, R81 and R000 and mounted on sheet foam.

The panel was adhered to white sheet foam and attached to an A2 sized card base. The eucalyptus leaves were painted with Nuvo Glitter Drops White Blizzard. I also used the glitter drops to partially stencil the background using Simon Says Stamp's Mermaid Scales. After adhering the sentiment panel to the card, Nuvo Glitter Drops were again used to embellish in and around the leave.
