Hello everyone! This is a scheduled post from London ... a fun getaway with my daughter and grandson! Today I have a gorgeous spray of flowers from Graciellie Design ... Grateful Heart. This digital stamp is such a beauty that I didn't want to cut any of it off! Solution .... an oversized, 6" X 6" card!
I printed the image on Canson Mixed Media paper and began the watercolor by wetting the paper to loosely drop in color on each of the elements. I chose dark green for the leaves, pink for the chrysanthemum, purple for the small cluster of berries and red for the large ones. I let the colour spill out into the background and let my panel completely dry.
Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers are a very quick and easy means to 'watercolour' an image. They are applied to dry paper and the colour pulled with a water brush. You need not worry about bleeding ... so little water is used and the area you are working on dries quickly. Multiple, adjacent areas can be worked on at once. Having said that, not all water brushes are created equal! Test the amount of water your brush releases as you do not want pools of water on your image! The Zig or other water colour markers provide a lot of control over the concentration of colour or shadow area. I painted the base of each flower petal, leaves, and so on, and used a water brush to pull the colour up to the tip. If I wanted more highlight area, I did the opposite. I started at the tip and washed the area with water to the base. This technique softens the line between where the colour was applied and where it was not creating more contrast.
After the panel was dry, I cut it down to 5 1/2" by 5 1/2" and mounted it on white sheet foam. This panel was adhered to black card stock, 5 7/8" square, before attaching it to a 6" by 6" cardbase. The lightly coloured sentiment panel also mounted on black card stock. I finished up with a few gold Nuvo drops.
