Faux, No-line Watercolour with Studio Katia's You're So Sweet

Updated: Jan 12

This post is a coming a couple of days later than I had anticipated. As I am sure you can appreciate, coming home after a vacation abroad during this unprecedented, global event has been very challenging. Like many of you, I am learning to do things differently and working to establish new daily routines. Amidst these tumultuous times, I have a pretty card for you featuring Studio Katia's You're So Sweet that I hope brings you some enjoyment!

I began this card by creating an 'ink smooshed' background using Distress Oxide Inks; Antique Linen, Spun Sugar and Worn Lipstick. I worked with one colour at a time, lightest to darkest, by applying ink to a surface, spritzing it with water and picking it up with a panel of Bristol Smooth cardstock. I used my heat tool to dry the panel between applications.

The floral stamp was placed in a stamping platform. I used Tombow 743 for the flowers and 249 for the the stems and leaves in the following manner. Angling the marker, I inked the stamp and made an impression on Bristol Smooth Cardstock. A watercolour brush was used to pull the colour out. The ink was reapplied and spritzed with a small amount of water and stamped again. Additional colour was applied with the marker directly on the image to deepen shadow areas and blended with the watercolour brush. On one of the blooms, I lost some of the definition so I stamped it a third time without spritzing. When the floral was complete, I fussy cut the image.

The ink smooshed background and a piece of white Neenah Solar White cardstock was die cut with the rectangular die from Pink Fresh Studio's Pretty Frames die set creating a series of fine frames. The frames and the centre panel were alternated between the ink smooshed and white and taped together. The second die in the set was used to cut the centre rectangular panel, another piece of white cardstock and sheet foam. The white thin frame was taped in place on the frame background.

The 'Just Because' sentiment was stamped with Versamark Ink on dark pink card stock and embossed with Wow! Embossing Powder. The small sentiment panel was adhered to Neenah cardstock and trimmed to leave an 1/8" border. The panel was attached to the upper, right hand corner of the central panel.

After the frame background was attached to an A2 sized card base, the central panel was adhered to the sheet foam die cut and attached to the card base. Foam squares were applied to the floral image and adhered to the raised panel. The card was finished up with Studio Katia's Antique Shimmer Pearls.
