The new Sending Cheer release from Simon Says Stamp includes some wonderful products for creating Christmas cards, and today I am featuring the CZ Designs Simple Trees Wafer Dies . This sweet die set includes four styles of trees, with a small and large version of each, along with two sizes of stars and an adorable little bow. There are so many possibilities with this set!

I love these little trees and decided to create two cards featuring a faux folded corner that reveals a wintry forest scene. I used the same basic design for both cards but changed the cardstock colours and embellishments to give each card its own personality.

Card Details

I began by cutting two panels of cardstock to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches, one in dark grey and the other in brown. These would form the backgrounds for my Christmas trees.

To create the faux folded corner, I used patterned paper from the AALL & Create Colourful Correspondence. Although these papers are not specifically Christmas themed, their neutral designs and lovely colours work beautifully for holiday cards. I cut each patterned paper panel to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches and trimmed off one corner to create the folded-page effect.

I mounted each cut-off corner onto black sheet foam to give it dimension. For a finished edge, I added silver glitter cardstock to the grey card and brown cardstock to the other. To create the mitred corners, I cut two strips for each corner, overlapped the ends at a right angle, and then cut through the overlap to create a neat join. The strips were adhered along the edges of the foam-mounted corners before I attached them to the patterned paper card fronts.

Next, I die-cut the trees using the CZ Designs Simple Trees Wafer Dies . For the grey card, I chose three shades of pink cardstock, creating a soft, pretty forest. For the brown card, I used gold glitter cardstock for one tree and two shades of green for the others. I added the stars to the tops of the trees, using the little bow on one of the pink trees for an extra sweet detail.

To position the trees, I placed the trimmed patterned paper corner over the background panel to determine where the trees would be visible. Once I was happy with the arrangement, I adhered the trees in place and splattered the exposed background with white opague paint to create a snowy effect. I then adhered each completed panel to an A2 card base and added the patterned paper panel on top.

For the sentiments, I reached for the CZ Designs Very Merry XL EZ Strips Sentiments. I love having ready-to-use sentiments on hand, and this set includes plenty of Christmas greetings that can be cut apart and added to cards with very little fuss. I used the Simon Says Stamp Sentiment Labelss Dies to trim the sentiments, then mounted each one onto cardstock matching its background. Both sentiments were popped up with black sheet foam for added dimension.

To finish the cards, I added Nuvo Crystal Drops in Simply White to the trees, creating little raised ornaments that stand out beautifully against the coloured cardstock.

Closing Thoughts

I had so much fun creating these two cards with the CZ Designs Simple Trees Wafer Dies! The faux folded corner is a simple technique that adds interest and dimension while allowing the little Christmas trees to take centre stage.

I especially love how changing the cardstock colours transforms the look of the design. The pink, grey, and silver combination feels soft and elegant, while the brown, green, and gold version has a warmer, more traditional Christmas feel.

This is a great design to try with patterned papers from your stash, even those that aren’t Christmas themed. With a few die-cut trees, a little splatter, and a quick sentiment, you can create a pair of festive cards that are easy to customise and fun to make!
