Distress Oxide Backgrounds with Simon Says Stamp’s Wafer Die Sentiments

Updated: Jan 12

Hello everyone! It feels like it has been a while since I last posted ... which it has!!! I have been working on this post in between a couple of trips to my daughter's place in Edmonton in the last couple of weeks ... long, eleven hour treks each way! Done at last ... with the post and driving for a while! LOL

I created five distress oxide ink backgrounds; three masked and the other two stencilled to feature a number of Simon Says Stamp's die cut sentiments.

Masked Backgrounds

The backgrounds for all the cards were inked all at once. For the masked cards. I began with a base of the lightest ink and masked off stripes using washi tape to add the additional colours. Washi tape is the perfect masking material .... the right amount of adhesive to ink crisp edges without the worry of tearing the paper and creating abrasions. Please refer to the tutorial for details.

Stencilled Backgrounds

Stencils were used to ink the backgrounds in the cards above. I created a stencil with a variety of sized of circle punches on mylar. The panel was inked with the lightest colour and the circles and stars were layered on with three additional colours. The star stencil was commercially produced. Refer to the video tutorial for details.

Simon Says Stamp 'Big Thank You'

The background for the 'Big Thank You' card was inked with distress oxide inks: Tumbled Glass, Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers and Blueprint Sketch. The panel and Simon Says Stamp's Blue Violet card stock were die cut with the thank you die. The panel was attached to the A2 sized card base. The striped die cut was slightly offset when adhered to the blue violet one before inlaying it in the panel. The secondary sentiment from Simon Says Stamp's Say It All Friend was stamped with Versafine ink. The card was embellished with Nuvo Crystal Drops; Duck Egg Blue, Caribbean Ocean and Midnight Blue.

Simon Says Stamp's Miss You

The vertically striped background was inked with Shaded Lilac, Seedless Preserves, Mermaid Lagoon and Chipped Sapphire. The panel was die cut with My Favorite Thing's Stitched Rectangle Stax 2. Simon Says Stamp's Miss You is a die set consisting of both the sentiment and its shadow. The shadow was die cut from the panel and from Simon Says Stamp's Soft Navy cardstock. The sentiment was die cut from the striped shadow die cut. The striped panel was adhered to Soft Navy card stock and attached to an A2 sized card base. The shadow die cut and and sentiment were inlaid on the panel. A secondary sentiment from Simon Says Stamp's Say It All Friend was embossed and die cut with with Simon Says Stamp's Sentiment Labels. Sequins topped with Morning Dew Crystal Drops finished the card.

Simon Says Stamp's Hello Crafty Friend

The horizontally striped background was inked with Scattered Straw, Dried Marigold, Fossilized Amber and Abandoned Coral. The panel was die cut with My Favorite Thing's Stitched Rectangle Stax 2. Simon Says Stamp's Hello Crafty Friend is a die set consisting of both the sentiment and its shadow. The shadow was die cut from the panel and from Simon Says Stamp's Sunshine cardstock. The sentiment was die cut from the striped shadow die cut. The striped panel was adhered to Sunshine card stock and attached to an A2 sized card base. The shadow die cut and and sentiment were inlaid on the panel. The card was embellished with sequins topped with Morning Dew Crystal Drops.

Simon Says Stamp's Birthday Wishes

This masculine birthday card was inked with Iced Spruce, Peacock Feathers, Pine Needles and Chipped Sapphire. The panel was die cut with Pink Fresh's Pretty Frames. The small panel was die cut with the Birthday Wishes die before being mounted on black sheet foam and adhered to Simon Says Stamp's Soft Navy card stock and an A2 card base. The two frames were attached around the small panel. The Birthday Wishes die was die cut from both navy card stock and patterned paper. The sentiment was adhered to the card and embellished with Silver Lining Crystal Drops.

Simon Says Stamp's Script Hello and Mod Circle Frame

The Bokeh style background was inked with Victorian Velvet, Worn Lipstick, Shaded Lilac and Wilted Violet. The panel was die cut with Mod Circle Frame. The script hello and the shadow was cut from Simon Says Stamp's Cotton Candy card stock. Both the frame and the script hello were embossed with clear sparkling embossing powder. The frame was adhered to an A2 sized card base and the die cut pieces inlaid. The secondary sentiment was stamped on the pink card stock with Worn Lipstick and die cut with Simon Says Stamp's Sentiment Labels. The small panel was edged with Wilted violet and Shimmering Rose Crystal Drops finished the card.
