Dimension, dimension, dimension!!! … featuring Simon Says Stamp’s Layered Birdie

Happy New Year!!! Did you ring in the New year? Not me … I haven’t for years! I am an early riser and I can’t seem to stay awake past 10:30 .. unless I am worried about something. I fell asleep to the sound of fireworks. It is extremely cold here and I have to be honest, I wasn’t at all envious of those brave souls who ventured out for the display!

I am low on birthday cards … no, not low. I am out! I am using two fabulous dies by Simon Says Stamp, LAYERED BIRDIE and FINE PETAL BACKGROUND PLATE to replenish my supply. It is all about DIMENSION today!

I ink blended Bristol Smooth card stock with Distress Oxide inks using the following combinations:

  • Villainous Potion, Dusty Concord, Shaded Lilac

  • Chipped Sapphire, Mermaid Lagoon, Cracked Pistachio

  • Candied Apple, Crackling Campfire, Ripe Persimmon with Picket Fence

  • Festive Berries, Picked Raspberry, Worn Lipstick

The die cuts for the birds were inked using daubers with Hickory Smoke, Black Soot and the medium and light tone used in the background panels for each of the birds. A Copic liner provides definition for the eye which was followed by a dot of black Nuvo Crystal Drops. Dot detail was added to the throat and breast with a white gel pen. The edges of wing and tip of the tail were highlighted with Nuvo Glitter Drops White Blizzard.

The ink blended panels were die cut with the FINE PETAL BACKGROUND PLATE and mounted on matte gold card stock. Foam squares were placed at the base of each flower to maintain a dimensional appearance. Simon’s HAPPY BIRTHDAY was die cut from the matte gold and adhered to the lower portion of the the flower rows. Foam tape was placed on the back of the bird’s head. Dots of glue adhere the claws to the top of a petal and the foam backed head is mounted on the base of another.
