Creating a Subtle Water Colour Background for Simon Says Stamp’s LAYERED BIRDIE

Hello everyone! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. Are you ready for 2022? I can't believe it will soon be upon us! The years literally fly by! Sending you best wishes for a new year where we rise above the isolation, anxiety and fear associated with the coronavirus. I pray that a commitment to safe practices will eventually result in gaining control of this crisis. I am a firm believer that focusing on others helps me to moderate my own misgivings and keeps me focused on the positives. Kindness and charity can spread faster than any virus when we reach out to others in need ... it can be as simple as sending an encouraging word in a handmade card. Take care, crafty friends, and here's to a year ahead filled with hopes and dreams realized.

I love Simon Says Stamp's LAYERED BIRDIE from their newest release, OVER THE MOON. I paired it with a couple of other newer favourite products; ETCHED BERRY BERRY BRANCH and CHRISTMAS FOLIAGE layering stencils. They all come together in a soft, water colour background.

Working on an oversized panel of Canson XL water colour paper with Sennelier paints, a textured wash of rose and white was created. One of the stencils from Christmas foliage was used to apply white Gouache paint ... a soft backdrop of pine needles and leaves. The panel was spattered with watered down Gouache and, when dry, cut with the second largest die in Pinkfresh Studio's Slim Stitched Rectangles.

There was quite a bit of die cutting with this card

  • Layered Birdie from Canson XL water colour paper. The bird was painted in rose and greys, assembled and finished off with a dot of Black Nuvo Drops for the eye.

  • Etched Berry Branch from both white and matte silver card stock and foam. Two white branches were mounted on foam and the two silver ones were cut apart.

  • The sentiment Miss You was die cut from matte silver and the leftovers of the watercolour panel. They were stacked and slightly offset.

  • Base layer using the largest die from Pinkfresh Studio's Slim Stitched Rectangles from matte silver card stock.

The water colour panel was adhered to foam and the foam backed leaves and stacked sentiment were mounted. The bird was attached with foam tape and the silver leaves rounded off the leafy background. The panel was adhered to the matte silver panel and mounted on a card base measuring 3 3/4" by 8 3/4". Pink and ivory confetti were added to the berry detail. Small silver confetti finished off the background. All of the confetti was topped off with Morning Dew Drops.
