Hello everyone! I hope you are well and, if you live in the northern hemisphere like me, enjoying the last days of summer. I am seeing the signs of change as we move toward autumn ... the early mornings have a cool crispness in the air, the days are becoming shorter and the annual plantings in the garden are leggy and looking spent. Soon the next season will be upon us and I look forward to a new palette of colour as a source of inspiration. BUT until then ... I have a totally white card featuring Simon Says Stamp's Beautiful Butterflies ... clearly not winter themed!
The Background
I began the card by making glitter paper. I reached for my white glitter card stock and had none! With a panel of Neenah Classic Crest 110lb card stock measuring 4" by 9" and some fine white glitter, I followed these steps:
Glitter Paper Recipe
The card stock was covered with double sided tape. I used Sookwang ... a strong adhesive.
The panel was covered with white fine glitter.
With the panel sandwiched between copy paper, the surface was burnished with the side edge of a bone folder.
The panel, still between the copy paper, made several passes through the die cutting machine.
The copy paper may stick to the glitter paper but will peel of easily. The glitter is firmly embedded in the adhesive ... no glitter fall out with this recipe!
The glitter panel was cut with the largest die in Pinkfresh Studio's Slim Ornate Banners. Two die cuts of Simon Says Stamp's Outline Clustered Leaves were used to create a leafy pattern over the panel. Some of the leaf centres were removed. The matte finish of the card stock against the glitter background makes the pattern stand out.
The Elements
Three butterflies from Beautiful Butterflies were stamped on vellum paper and embossed with Wow! Glitter Clear Sparkle embossing powder. The butterflies and the sentiment, Beautiful Friend, were stamped on card stock and embossed two times in WOW! Opaque Bright White. The extra dimension for the sentiment makes is clearly readable (in real life!). The butterflies were assembled with a strip of glue on the body of the paper butterfly and the slightly folded vellum butterfly attached.
Putting It All Together
The glitter panel was adhered to white sheet foam that had been cut with the same banner die as the panel before attaching it to a 4" by 9" card base. The butterflies were staggered down the panel. The sentiment was mounted on foam before it was adhered to the panel. Iridescent crystals were placed around the leaves. The leaves with the centres removed were filled in with the clear but sparkly drying, Nuvo Glitter Drops, White Blizzard.
